Approaching Goals for 2023
My goals written in the cute planner by FRANNERD
Having a late start to the new year? Feeling a bit bummed that life somehow got in the way of your plans much more than you thought? Yeah, me too. That's OK—better late than never!
Planning goals, and (most importantly) following through said goals is HARD. It's been one of the biggest struggles of my life, and it still is. Everyone goes through it. That's why one of my goals this year is to start and keep blogging (a longtime dream of mine), and thus this post. So I can (perhaps) become more accountable for myself.
To do so, my goal is to write (at least) 1 blog a month. If there's one thing I learned, it's to take tiny baby steps that's doable within your schedule and (especially) energy-frame (the act of writing, AKA typing fingers on a keyboard, is not difficult since it's all muscle-memory—it's the conceptualization of what to write and writing well plus editing that is most brain-draining). Because I still have other projects and life obligations, I'm not planning blogging to be a big thing. At least... not yet.
For one thing, it's hard to get back in the swing of things after several major life events happen in a row: helping a sister move (which involves packing, cleaning, etc), getting our dog spayed (yay, finally! But that recovery period was not fun—keeping her calm when she just wants to run and jump around is not easy), celebrating Lunar New Year last month (a big deal for our fam) and oh yeah, jury duty… Plus several social and industry events and mentoring comes to mind. Gee, one would think how is an introvert like me so social and busy all the time? I don't know man, I just am.
So what do I got to do? Prioritize. That's the key. Now, I suck at prioritizing, but hey I try. Trying is the next best.
How I approach my goals!
Think of it like that of a journey: take one step at a time and see where the path takes you.
Plans and prioritizing often get switched around (or more like scrambled) however, but that's OK! Like the fact that I've been prioritizing writing and website and newsletter building (all things entrepreneur) over drawing the past week. Next week, I'll just prioritize drawing! I've also been (trying) to read more—although most of what I read are how-to articles, but hey that counts too!
All this is to say is that my approach to goals is like that of a journey: take one step at a time and see where the path takes you. Because eventually, you'll see where you're going when the destination is ahead of you.
How are you approaching your goals this year?
